Dialogue to Develop. Guide, not Dominate.
In twenty years of excercise I learned a lot. After a literature study on 'What is Human Architecture?' I wondered about the knowledge on and the position of the cliënt/user/commissioner being still largely absent. With these findings I explicited my conscious approach towards cliënt's learning and change processes. Because change is involved in every encouraging design process.
To succeed I choose for an open attitude; first I listen, then I talk. In this way I see myself as a game dealer between your needs and wishes and my knowledge and experience. When we open up for the unexpected in dialogue, design solutions can surprise instead of only measure up.

Choices to make.
Hoe eenvoudig de vraag ‘hoe wil ik wonen, werken, leven?’ ook lijkt, in de praktijk is het een complex vraagstuk. Daarom heb ik een unieke werkwijze ontwikkeld: vanuit de eerste briefing van wat er bij jou als opdrachtgever op het programma staat, exploreer ik ontwerpend. Zo kom ik niet met één maar met verschillende ontwerpoplossingen als varianten van telkens andere maar relevante gebruiksmogelijkheden. Door deze verschillende lay-outs van het (woon)programma duidelijk te presenteren, wordt het toekomstige gebruik veel beter bespreekbaar. Tijdens creatieve werksessies met jou, de opdrachtgever, onderzoeken we samen meerdere denkbeelden en perspectieven. De verschillende oplossingen die ik presenteer zetten dus aan tot denken: alleen zo kun jij goed onderbouwd je eigen keuzes maken.
Guide.
Ik geloof dat het cruciaal is om samen met jou te ontwerpen, in dialoog. Want hoe bewuster we ons omringen met een vormgeving die ons aanspreekt, des te meer deze geschikt voor ons is. Met mijn kennis en ervaring verras ik jou met verschillende creatieve, doordachte oplossingen. Jij kiest, ik stuur bij. Jij maakt dus gebruik van mijn ervaring; wij komen dichter bij jouw dromen. Het gaat niet om mij als architect, maar om jou als bewoner, als mens in de ruimte.

Grow into the design of your project.
Onze woonomgeving getuigt van ideeën die bij ons passen, ze biedt ons een zelfbeeld en inspireert onze toekomst. Mijn taak bestaat er dan ook in om jou doorheen het ontwerpproces te begeleiden in het nemen van je eigen beslissingen, in het maken van autonome keuzes. Zodat je meegroeit in het ontwerp en stap voor stap eigenaar wordt. Doorheen de tijd geef je daarna zelf vorm aan je plek, want jij als bewoner blaast de structuur leven in. Gelukkig is dit werk van toe-eigening nooit definitief, nooit af.

Tapetime.
How do we explain space? How do we communicate scale? Sometimes its hard for clients to read plans, especially when trying to design compact spaces. Often people worry about them being too small. So I felt it is very helpfull to lay it out in real scale, by taping it on floors, sometimes on walls. Or creating a mock-up installation. Clients can circulate, feel, see the proposed designs now related to their bodies, to their measures. It alters distant lines on paper into their bodily experience.
